11. Read the following case and answer the questions given
below:
Rathod, an Electrical Engineer of a private limited
company in Tamil Nadu, received a call from Kumar,
security officer of this company informing that
Narayanan, one of the supervisors of Electrical
department has been caught red-handed at the gate
while attempting to steal one small electric motor.
During the preliminary enquiry, it came to light that
Narayanan had constructed one box under the seat of his
two wheeler, where a 0.5 hp motor belonging to the
company were concealed.
On being asked, Narayanan replied that he had attended
a break-down after 5 p.m. in the department and
replaced one 0.5 h.p. motor. The motor that was
recovered from him was the defective one, thought of
returning it next day as the store-keeper had already left
the office. He also told that he had done many times in
the past. On checking up, the electrical motor recovered
from him was in working condition.
As per the company's certified standing order No.23,
'Theft, fraud or dishonesty in connection with company's
business or property is a misconduct.
Questions:
Does this case deserve suspension, pending
enquiry?
Advise the management on the steps for handling
the above case.
