There is a great need for assimilation of Sports and Physical Education in the daily life of the citizens of our country. For this, programs like "Run for Health" and "Sports for All" should be popularized, so as to develop sports and health consciousness in common man.
While doing this there is a dire need to promote sport in rural and tribal areas by opening "sports centres" in these areas. Special programs suited to their environment should be planned by the respective State Sports Councils and necessary assistance should be provided by the respective State Governments, Government of India, Industry and business houses.
D-47-10 26
This necessitates an urgency to develop more cooperation, collaboration and coordination between sports promoting agencies in the country. The various national sports controlling bodies should build up sports statistics to collect data so as to compare the performance of Indian sportsmen with sportsmen of other countries. New incentives in the form of National Awards, need to be introduced in all spheres and areas associated with sports. Further, outstanding National Sports Persons who have won international laurels and brought credit and glory to the country should not be left uncared for a National Welfare Fund, controlled and monitored by the Central Government should be earmarked. Love and Interest for games and sports need to be developed through public awareness campaigns organised by the Centre and the State Governments.
Serious notice also needs to be given to the fact that gradually competitive sports are replacing physical education programs in our schools. Hence there is a great need to emphasize and popularize the educative, recreative, demonstrative and socio-cultural values of Physical Education.
