2. State Trapezoidal formula and Prismoidal formula and explain the use of one.
A farmer gr. wi a wheat crop having a rootzone depth of 60cm ana sandy soil with an specific gravity of 1.62, permanent wilting point of 5 percent and field capacity of 32 percent would like to irrigate the crop when the soil moisture level reaches 50 per cent deficiency as detected by taking a soil sample. The 100 g sample of moist soil, on oven drying, yielded 84.380 g of oven-dry soil. Does the farmer need to start irrigation? And, if needed, how many centimeters gf water need be applied?
An irregular cross sectioned stream of 35 m width is divided into 7 sections each of 5 m width. The depths of water at the end of each of the six successive sections, respectively, are recorded as 2.0m, 3.5m, 4.0m, 3.8m, 3.6m and 2.8m. The average velocities applicable to the respective sections have been determined as 0.32, 0.38, 0.41, 0.45, 0.43, 0.39 and 0.30 m/s. Calculate the total discharge of the stream and the average velocity of the stream.
3. Explain with the help of neatly drawn sketches how the discharge of a tubewell is measured.
An irrigation engineer when asked to design an earthen channel of 2.1 cumecs capacity en a bed slope of 1 in 3,500, side slopes of the channel Chezy's constant, C 60 designed a channel with 200 cm bottom width and 80 cm depth of flow. Check up the correctness of the design.

A compact block of 500 m x 500 m is divided into 25 plots each of 1 ha area is
supposed to be irrigated by a deep tube well. Making reasonable assumptions regarding the soil, crop etc. describe how you will find the discharge of the tube well which will be able to command the given area.
4. Explain, in brief, the Investigations and Planning of either one of the following
River Valley Project Minor Irrigation Project

Describe the method of constructing a Tube Well.

What is Well Development? How is it performed?

5. Define drainage coefficient? How is it determined?

List the methods used for surface drainage of flat lands(ii) sloping lands, and

ponded areas and describe anyone with neatly drawn diagrams.

Explain the detailed procedure of designing an open ditch.

6. Write short notes on any four of the following:
Farmstead Planning Mlndigenous Grain Storage Structures
Deep Litter Poultry House Plan of Face-out System of Dairy Barn
Pit Privy Rural Water Supply Balanced Section
(viii) Design of Truss.
Design the floor plan of residence for a farmer given the following:
Unit cost of construction per square meter of area Rs.2,000
ii) The amount which the farmer would like to spend Rs. 2,00,000
iii) Suggested dimensio(1s of rooms:

Bedroom: 3.6m x 3.0m; Drawing room: 4.5m x 3.6m Kitchen: 2.5m x 4.0m; Store: 3.0m x 1.8m; Bathroom: 2m x 3.0m; Study room: 3m x 2.5m;
Note: You are free to assume any alternative dimensions to facilitate the design.
7. Calculate the quantities of materials required to make 10 cubic meters of
1 5 10 cement concrete for laying out in the foundation of a farm building.
On one side of the slanting roof of a small shed, 28 G.C.I. sheets, each of
dimensions 1.0m x 1.8m are used in two rows of 14 sheets. Assuming 10%
overlap in both length and breadth calculate the area of one side of the slanting

Explain the detailed proceciui of designing any ONE of the following:
R.C.C.
Lintel for the Doorway in a Milk Room;

R.C.C.
Roof Slab for a Grain Store;
Composite Beam of Timber and Mild Steel;
Long Mild Steel Column; Foundation for a Grain Silo.
