(Regulations: VCE-R11/R11A)
SOFTWARE TESTING AND QUALITY ASSURANCE
(Common to Computer Science and Engineering Information Technology)
Date: 14 May, 2018 AN Time: 3 hours Max Marks: 75
Answer ONE question from each Unit
All Questions Carry Equal Marks
Unit I
1. How testing is different from debugging process? Discuss why testing is to be
done for a program?
7M
Describe the importance of bugs in software. List the consequences of bugs.
8M
2. Explain the effectiveness and limitations of the path testing. Discuss how nested and
concatenated loops are constructed for path testing.
15M
Unit II
3. Differentiate between static and dynamic anomaly detection methods. List and
explain the components of data flow anomaly model.
15M
4. List the limitations of the one-dimensional domain testing. Describe with
examples how two-dimensional domain testing is done.
11M
Define definition- clear path segment.
4M
Unit III
5. Write a reduction procedure for converting a flow graph whose links are labeled
with names into a path expression that denotes the set of all entry/exit paths in
that flow graph.
10M
Write the process of decision table. 5M
6. Write a brief note on three variable Karnaugh-Veitch charts. 8M
Explain identity elements and absorption laws.
7M
Unit IV
7. Describe the terms "unreachable state" and "dead state". 10M
What is partial ordering relation?
5M
8. Explain briefly equivalence relation. 7M
Illustrates how to convert the following specification into a state graph and how
contradictions can come about
Rule The program will maintain an error counter, which will be incremented
whenever there's an error.
Rule If there is an error, rewrite the block.
Rule If there have been three successive errors, erase 10 centimeters of tape
and then rewrite the block.
Rule If there have been three successive erasures and another error occurs, put
the unit out of service.
8M
Unit V
9. Explain different phases of testing using Win Runner. 8M
What is function testing? Explain.
7M
10. Explain steps in automated testing process. 15M
