1. Answer the following (each answer should be in approximately 100 words): (Marks 2×10=20)
a. Write two most important reasons for the importance of English language in the context of
Indian legal Scenario.
b. Specify two main special problems of legal language in India.
c. What is importance of 'Passive Voice' in language?
d. Write three main features of a 'formal letter'.
e. Write the Latin maxim which says that Ignorance of the law does not excuse.
f. Explain meaning of the term facie".
g. In the context of letter writing specify the difference between 'Yours faithfully' and
'Yours sincerely'
h. How 'précis writing' is different than 'paraphrasing'?
i. Explain meaning of 'due process of law' in the context of the Indian constitutional law.
j. Write two French words often used in legal writing.
2. Explain meaning of 'idioms' used in the following sentences: (Marks 1×10=10)
a. His evidence bears out the evidence of the first witness.
b. He broke down in the middle of his speech.
c. He called on me yesterday.
d. I am done for.
e. We expected that our friends would get off with fine.
f. The team has given up.
g. The matter is held over.
h. His friends look up to him.
i. They were pulled up by the English teacher.
j. A lawyer worked upon the ignorant clients.

i. Write a sentence in Past Continuous Tense and convert the same into Future
Continuous Tense
ii. Write a sentence in Past Perfect Tense and convert the same into Future Perfect Tens
iii. Write a sentence in Past Indefinite Tense and convert the same into Interrogative form
iv. Write a sentence in Past Indefinite Tense and convert the same into Interrogative form
