Explain active and passive solar heating system with neat sketch.
2. Establish relation between Cp and Cv in terms of R (Gas constant) and
(adiabatic index).[7M]
A gas in a piston cylinder assembly undergoes an expression process for which the relation
between pressure and volume is given by pV n constant. The initial pressure is 0.3 MPa, the
initial volume is 0.1 m3 and final volume 0.2 m3. Determine work for the process in kJ if
i. n 1.5
ii. n 1
iii. n 0.
UNIT II

Find enthalpy and entropy of steam when pressure is 2 MPa and the specific volume is 0.09
m3/kg.
4. Explain the construction and working of Cochran boiler.
If heat absorbed by the engine 10,000 Joule, Find the work done by the Carnot engine
when lower temperature is 400K and higher temperature is 800K, and draw the p-v diagram.

UNIT III
5. With the help of a neat diagram explain the construction and working principle of vapour absorption
refrigeration system
A 4-cylinder four-stroke petrol engine develops 14.7 kW at 1000 rpm. The mean effective pressure
is 5.5 bar, calculate the bore and stroke of the engine, if the length of stroke is 1.5 times the bore.

6. Explain working principle of four stoke CI engine with a neat sketch.
Distinguish between window and split air conditioning systems.

8 min at 60 m/min.
Explain the basic components of a Numerical Control system.
8. Draw neat sketch of column and knee type milling machine. Label the main parts and state their
functions.
How robots are useful in industries? Explain various applications of industrial Robots in different
levels of product manufacturing.
UNIT V
9. Define welding? Write the classification of welding process.
How are the composites classified and list the application of composite materials used in automobile
and air craft industry.
