Part A
Explain the following passages with reference to the context: 10 x 2 20) 1. The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves, that we are underlings 2. Bear with me; My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar, And I must pause till it come back to me 3. There is a tide in the affairs of men which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune omitted, all the voyage of their lives are bound in shallows and in miseries 4. The evil that men do lives after them; The good is oft interred with their bones 5. It seems to me most strange that men should fear, seeing that death, a necessary end, will come when it will come 6. All that gliders is not gold; Often have you heard that told: Many a man his life hath sold But my outside to behold: Gilded tombs do worms enfold 7. How far that little candle throws his beams! So shines a good deed in a weary world. 8. But mercy is above this sceptred sway; It is enthroned in the hearts of kings, It is an attribute to God himself;

And earthly power doth then show likest God's When mercy seasons justice 9. A goodly apple rotten at the heart. what a goodly outside falsehood hath 10. "If to do were as easy as to know what were good to do, chapels had been churches, and poor men's cottages princes' palaces. It is a good divine that follows his own instructions: I can easier teach twenty what were good to be done, than be one of the twenty to follow mine own teaching.
