Among the many reasons which make me glad to
have been born in England, one of the first is that
I read Shakespeare in my own tongue.
I consider a human soul without education like
marble in the quarry which shows none of its
inherent beauties, until the skill of a polisher
fetches out the colours, makes the surface shine,
discovers every ornamental cloud, spot and view
that run through the body of it.
