The Sun is the largest member of the solar system. The sun is made up of
extremely hot gases giving out huge flames and it is the only source of energy (heat and
light) for the whole of the solar system. The earth is at an average distance of 150x106
km from the sun. The heat and the light radiation from the sun travel with a speed
3x105 km per second. This radiation takes 8 minutes to travel from the sun to the earth.

the order of millions of degrees. The outer region of the sun is called the chromosphere
and its temperature is of the order of 6000 k.

Then a small quantity of the substance is added and heated intermittently till the bottom
of the ignition tube becomes red hot. It is immediately plunged into a mortar containing

Ramanathapuram: The Ramanathapuram United Mechanised Boat Association has
complained to the Assistant Director of Fisheries that Sri Lankan navy personnel had
arrested 24 fishermen of Rameswaram and towed away six mechanised boats.
In their complaint, the president of the association, V..Gnanaseelan, and secretary
Muruganandan said that a group of fishermen who set out from Rameswaram on
Wednesday returned on Thursday morning. These fishermen had informed that Sri
Lankan navy personnel had arrested 24 fishermen and taken away their six mechanised
boats.
Assistant Director of Fisheries Thangaraj had reported the matter to the Director of
Fisheries in Chennai. Arresting of fishermen from Rameswaram by the Sri Lankan navy
has now become routine but the one happening on a New Year eve had led to unrest
among fishermen here.
