PAPER II PRINCIPLES OF PERFUSION TECHNOLOGY PART I

I. Elaborate on: x 10 30)
1. Give a note on extracorporeal circulation and also state the history of CPB till date.
2. What is priming and its aim? Different types of priming solutions used in CPB in
detail.
3. Explain about ultra filtration, its significance, methods used in CPB and also draw a
circuit of modified ultra filtration.
II. Write notes on: x 5 40)
1. Write a note on Centrifugal Pump with diagram and mention its advantage over
Roller pump.
2. What are membrane oxygenators? Write some characteristics of an oxygenator and
its history till date.
3. Explain the strategies involved in preservation of Myocardium of Cardiac surgery.
4. Write some essential parameters to be monitored on CPB not less than 7 parameters.
5. Principles of oxygenation and note on extracorporeal gas exchange.
6. Heparin-mechanism of action, dose and its effects on patients undergoing bypass.
7. Effects of CPB on Brain and Lung. State some neurological problems faced post
operatively after cardiac surgery.
8. Management of air embolic event in CPB and how you will avoid such incidents.
III. Short answers on: (10 x 3 30)
1. What is CAD? What are the factors which causes CAD?
2. What is IABP? Its uses and mention its contraindications.
3. Hypothermia merits and de merits three points each.
4. Composition of Delnido Cardioplegia with base solution. What is the safe duration of it?
5. Indications of Fem-Fem bypass and femoral canulation.
6. Write a note on tetrology of Fallot and mention some pediatric oxygenators.
7. Normal ACT value ……. seconds.

8. What is ECMO? and mention its types in short.
