PAPER II DESCRIPTIVE TYPE
Instructions:-(1) Answer any two questions from Section any two questions from Section II and anyone question from Section III.

All questions carry equal marks.


Answers must be written either in English or in Hindi. However, all the questions should be answered in one language only. Answer-books written partly in English and partly in Hindi will not be evaluated.


Each question should be answered on new page and the question number must be written on the top in left margin.


The answers of parts of the same question, if any, should be written together. In other words, the answer of another questions should not be written in-between the parts of a question.


The Name, Roll No. and other entries should be written in the answer-scripts at the specified places only and these should not be written anywhere else in the answer script and supplements.


Candidate should use only Blue or Black ink penlball point pen to write the answers.


Answers will be evaluated on the basis of logic, brevity and clarity in exposition.


Marks will be deducted for illegible hand-writing.


Use of non-programmable electronic calculatorllog table is permitted.


Assume any additional data, if deemed necessary and state the assumptions clearly.

8.(a)Explain the Hardy-Cross method of moment distribution at a joint where many structural members meet. 6
(b)Using the moment distribution method or any other method, find the bending moments and shear forces at the joints of a beam with following details. Beam ABCD is fixed at both ends A and D and is continuous over the intermediate supports B and C. Span AB=3.5m, span BC=3.0 span CD=4.0m. Span AB and BC are loaded with uniformly distributed load of 200 N per running meter and span CD is loaded with an anticlockwise moment of 100 N-m. at the centre of the span. The moment of inertia for AB is I for BC it is 1.5 I and for CD it is 21. Sketch the B.M. and S.F. diagrams and show the deflected shape of the loaded beam. Neglect the self weight of the beam. Assume any other data if required and state the assumption clearly. 14
