Answer any two of the following questions in about 500 words each. Each question carries 20 marks. 2x20=40
1. Comment on the conditions of health, nutrition and sanitation in South Asia.
2. Analyse the role of political parties in the political system of Pakistan.
3. Identify and explain the main issues confronting Sri L8nkan polity in recent times.
4. Evaluate the impact of liberalisation and structural adjustment programmes in India.

Answer any four of the following questions in about 250 words each. Each question carries 12 marks. 4x12=48
5. What were the main grievances of the Bengalis in East Pakistan? Describe.
6. Describe the nature of structural adjustments in Pakistan after the return of Democracy in 1988.

8. What challenges does the civil society face in Bangladesh? Elaborate.
9. Discuss the nature of political and judicial institutions in Bhutan.
10. Describe the main challenges that the nation-state is facing in South Asia.
11. Critically examine the role of SAARC.
