Answer any two of the following questions in about 500 words each. Each question carries 20 marks. 2x20=40
1. Write an essay on the concept of Legitimation.
2. Discuss the new science of politics with reference to the views of Eric Voegelin and Christian Bay.
3. Describe the contribution of Buddhist thought to Indian political traditions.
4. Compare the Liberal and the Marxist political traditions.
SECTION II
Answer any four of the following questions in about 250 words each. Each question carries 12 marks. 4x12=48
5. Define State and explain its meaning.
6. Describe the characteristics of sovereignty.
7. Discuss Michel Foucault's views on power.
8. Examine David Bentham's critique of Max Weber.
9. Critically analyse the alternatives to the modern liberal notion of citizenship.
10. What is equality of opportunity? Explain.
11. Comment on ancient Greek democracy as a direct democracy.
12. Write a note on representative democracy in practice.
