Note: This question paper has three sections. The students have to attempt any two questions in about 500 words each from Section any four questions in about 250 words each from Section II and any two short notes in about 100 words each from Section Ill. The marks are mentioned against each question.

SECTION I

1. Discuss the formation and characteristics of regions in Indian history. 20

3. Explain the nature of early state formation in the Deccan. 20

4. Trace the rise and establishment of Gupta kingdom in North India in the 4th century AD. Why did it disintegrate? 20

5. What were the chief characteristics of Neolithic Culture in the Indian subcontinent? 12

6. Assess the nature of trade and exchange activities of Harappans with contemporary West Asian civilizations. 12

7. Write an essay on the early Vedic society and religion. 12

8. Discuss the major aspects of society and economy in the period between 6th century B.C. and 4th century B.C. 12

9. Describe the central administration of the Mauryan Empire. 12

10. Analyse the nature of early state formation in Tamilham

11. Give an account of the political developments in the Deccan and South India from the 6th century A.D. onwards with special reference to Chalukyas, Pallavas and Pandyas. 12

12. Write a note on the developments in religion in the early medieval period. 12
