Advertisement for the Post of Junior Research Fellow (On Contract)

Applications are invited from Indian nationals for the post of Junior Research Fellow (on contract) in research project entitled Operation of the Smart Grid with Wide Area Information (OperaGrid) sanction order no. INT/NOR/RCN/P-08/2015 dated 22/05/2015. This is a collaborative research project, jointly funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) for Indian side and the Research Council of Norway (RCN) for Norwegian side.

Project Description:

In both the Indian and the Norwegian power grids, there are ambitious plans for installation and use of phasor measurement units (PMUs) for improved monitoring, protection and control. A common challenge is to make use of all the information that become available and develop applications that significantly benefit system operation and security.

The project deals with operation and control of power grids in order to meet the future challenges in realising sustainable energy systems. In particular, the project will address key topics of wide area monitoring and thereby its management to form a smart power grid.

Objectives of the Project:

The objective of the project is to develop, demonstrate and validate smart and robust solutions for grid operation (in Indian regional grids). In this context, the work will emphasize on development of dynamic simulation models, including the interconnected neighboring grids. The studies related to dynamic stabilities under different scenarios of power flow exchange, wide area monitoring and control, protection, etc would be considered. A formal method to extract useful information from collected data of PMUs installed in the grid will be developed.

Candidates Eligibility and Responsibilities:

The candidate should hold a Master's degree in electrical engineering with specialization in Power System/Control & Instrumentation, and have excellent knowledge of Matlab/Simulink or any other related software application to power system study. Applicants' background should have knowledge of modeling and control of power system components, their dynamic studies and signal processing applications in power system study. For this position it is required to be fluent in English and to have a proven ability to publish in scientific conferences and journals.

The candidate is expected to:

Work for the specified objectives of the project

Be involved in the scientific discussion at the group level

Publish papers in peer-reviewed International Journals and conferences

Prepare report on the outcome of results to DST, New Delhi/partner university

The candidate may be also required to visit partner university in Norway for a short duration during the course of project period.

The position is purely temporary and will be governed by the funding agency rules & service conditions of Office of the Dean (Research & Consultancy), MNNIT Allahabad.

Essential Qualifications : M.Tech. with specialization in Power System/Control & Instrumentation /Power Electronics

Desirable Experience : One year research experience in related area along with relevant publication.

Fellowship : 25,000.00 per month (Consolidated) + HRA (as per norms)

Other Benefits : Accommodation may be available as per the availability and the Institute norms. Candidates having CPI 6.5 or 60% marks in M. Tech may be eligible to register for Ph.D. program of the Institute. Facility of yearly leave, carry over leave, medical benefits etc. may be available as per applicable rules of the project staff.

Age Limit : 28 years on the last date of application (The upper age limit is relaxable up to 5 years in the case of

candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PH and women candidates)

Tenure of Appointment : Appointment will be made on contract basis for a period of one year initially, which may be extended

depending on the performance evaluation on yearly basis till the end of project.

7. No TA/DA will be paid for appearing in the interview.
