Preamble

National Institute of Technology Hamirpur (formerly Regional Engineering College) was established in the year 1986 as joint venture of Govt. of India and Govt. of Himachal Pradesh. The campus is spread in more than 200 Acres of land in a picturesque surrounding facing snow clad Dhaulladhar ranges. It was renamed as National Institute of Technology along with all other RECs in year 2002 and conferred Deemed University status. The Institute has been awarded the status of Institute of National Importance by the Act of Parliament in the year 2007.

In last couple of years, NIT Hamirpur has registered a tremendous progress in all the spheres, be it teaching-learning process, R&D, consultancy, continuing education, community development, training the teachers, etc.

At present, NIT Hamirpur offers four years B.Tech. degree in Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Material Science and Engineering and a five years B.Arch. Moreover the Institute has also introduced a 05 year Dual degree Bachelor and Master of Technology in Computer Science & Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering. The admission to all these UG programmes is made through an all India level competitive examination JEE-Main (formerly AIEEE).

The Institute is offering M.Tech. programmes since 2005. Seventeen M.Tech./M.Arch. programmes are running at present. The Institute has been a choice destination for admission to the M.Tech. programmes which can be judged by the large number of applications received against limited seats during yesteryears. All eligible M.Tech. programmes are accredited by NBA for three years.

This Admission Notice is to invite applications for M.Tech./M.Arch. (Full Time) admissions in various academic departments/centres under Sponsored schemes.

Introduction

Applications are invited for admission to the M.Tech./M.Arch. (Full Time) programme for the academic session 2017-18 as per the details given in this brochure, alongwith fee in the form of crossed Bank Draft for ` 1000/-(Rupees One Thousand only) drawn in favour of the Registrar, NIT Hamirpur (HP)-177 005, payable at State Bank of India, NIT Hamirpur (Branch Code No. 10367).

Duly filled/completed application alongwith supporting documents/certificates should reach in the office of Dean (Academic), National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur (HP)-177 005 by 17.07.2017 upto 5.00PM. The candidates should note that the Institute will not be responsible for postal delay or any irregularities in submitting the applications.

For all the above mentioned schemes, the application form may be downloaded from Institute website http://www.nith.ac.in. In case, a candidate wants to apply for programmes in more than one department/centre, he/she is required to submit separate applications for each programme alongwith processing fee of ` 1000/- (Rupees One Thousand only). Latest update about vacant seats, dates, etc. will be available on Institute website http://www.nith.ac.in. Important Note:

Number of seats in various programmes may vary as per the directions of MHRD.
The minimum eligibility criteria indicated in this brochure for each M.Tech./M.Arch. programme is only enabling clause. The department/centre may fix higher criteria at the time of short listing, keeping in view the number of candidates, minimum background expected to cope with the programme, etc.
All matters of dispute will be subjected to legal jurisdiction of the courts at Hamirpur/Shimla.
The Institute reserves the right to amend, without any notice, any provisions stated in this document/brochure.
In all matters, the decision/interpretation of Senate/Chairman Senate shall be final.
Candidates claiming to belong to OBC will be required to produce a certificate to that effect from appropriate authority issued on or after 01.04.2017. Such candidates will have to satisfy the caste and creamy layer requirements detailed on the following National Commission for Backward Classes (ncbc) websites:

2.1 Eligibility for M.Tech./M.Arch. (Sponsored) Programmes

The applicant must have a Bachelor Degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/AMIE/MCA in appropriate discipline or a Master Degree in appropriate discipline with CGPI of 6.5 on a 10-point

scale (or

equivalent)

or 60%

marks

in case of Open/OBC candidates in

qualifying

degree. Whereas

in case

of SC/ST candidates a CGPI of 6.0 on

a 10-Point

scale (or

equivalent) or

55% marks in qualifying degree will

be applicable.

The admission to M.Tech./M.Arch. programmes will be on the basis of valid GATE score in the year 2015, 2016 or 2017 in appropriate subject as per Annexure-II. In every programme only these combinations of eligibility degree disciplines and GATE subjects are allowed. The above table provides details of availability of seats in each programme.

However, the candidates sponsored from Central Govt. organization/institute are exempted from the requirement of valid GATE score. The DSC shall follow the criteria outlined in Section 2.2 in respect of such candidates. The admission will be made as per the reservation policy of the Government of India.

2.2 Admission Procedure M.Tech./M.Arch (Sponsored).
(a) Conversion from CGPI to percentage or vice versa given by individual institute will not be considered/allowed.
(b) Govt. Sponsored candidates will be preferred as compared to private candidates.
(c) To resolve and determine inter se merit of private sponsored candidates having same GATE score, following criterion will be used in the stated order of preference:
i. Candidates having GATE score in 2015 will be given preference over candidate having score of 2016 and in 2016 will be given preference over candidate having score of 2017.
ii. If years of GATE score are also same then the candidate with more experience will be given preference.
iii. In highly unlikely event of equality of their experience i.e. same duration of experience the candidate who was born earlier as compared to other candidates with tie will be given preference.
(d) To resolve and determine inter se merit of Govt. sponsored candidates following criterion will be used in the stated order of preference:
i. Candidate with more experience will be given preference.
ii. In highly unlikely event of equality of their experience i.e. same duration of experience the candidate who was born earlier as compared to other candidates with tie will be given preference.

(e) A candidate who fulfils above eligibility criteria and who is sponsored by his/her employer must be in service of the sponsoring organization. Continuously for at least two year on 30.06.2017. Moreover, the sponsoring organization must be a reputed medium or large scale Govt. organization/private industry or a reputed technical Institute. The sponsoring organization must specifically undertake to relieve the candidate to pursue the programme for its full duration. The applicant must attach the relevant sponsorship certificate from his/her employer preferable on letter head of the Institution/organization/industry alongwith the application.

(f) The applicants shall apply for admission on the prescribed application form which can be downloaded from Institute website. The duly completed application must reach in the office of Dean (Academic, NIT Hamirpur (HP) latest by 17/07/2017 upto 5.00 PM. The application shall be scrutinized by the concerned Departmental Selection Committee (DSC) of the departments/ Centres. The list of the shortlisted candidates shall be displayed by the concerned Head of Department on Institute Website on 20/07/2017 and no separate call letters will be issued.

(g) The counselling and admission of shortlisted candidates will be held on 03/08/2017 at 9.00 AM in the concerned department/ centre for which candidates are required to appear in person.

(h) On approval of the Chairman, Senate, the Head of Department will issue the admission letters to the candidates, who will be required to accept the offer of admission by depositing the prescribed fee upto 07.08.2017 (5:00PM).

(i) In case, a candidate does not accept the offer by paying the prescribed fee by the specified deadline, the offer of admission may stand withdrawn. The offer of admission may also stand withdrawn if the candidate who has accepted the offer and fails to register by 07.08.2017 (5:00PM).

(j) The candidates are required to produce the following documents in original as well as two copies thereof at the time of counselling/admission on 03.08.2017.

14. No objection certificate from the sponsoring organization

The selected candidates are also required to produce additional documents as specified on the Institute website [Admission Desk] by

07.08.2017.

3. Approval of Admission

On the recommendation of the DSC, the list of candidates recommended for admission will be sent for approval of Chairman Senate through Chairman SPGC and Dean (Academic). After approval of the Chairman Senate, concerned Head of the Department/Centre will issue the admission letters to the selected candidates. All the students/research scholars once admitted to various M.Tech./M.Arch. programmes, shall be governed by the Institute norms.
