INTRODUCTION

Department of Physics, National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra is organizing 5th National Conference on Nanoscience and Instrumentation Technology (NCNIT-2017) during March 05-06, 2017. Nanomaterials play key roles in science and technology in 21st century. The objectives of this conference series are to provide an interdisciplinary forum for Scientists, Engineers, Technologist and Industrialist engaged in the full spectrum of research & development, applications and to discuss the current status and recent developments of instruments through these materials. In addition, the conference will provide excellent opportunities to review the recent development and technological applications covering wide range of topics. Themes have been selected to accommodate wide range of interests to facilitate interdisciplinary interactions in academic fields and technology / industry.

Established in 1963, the Institute is one of the top ranking institutes for engineering and technology education in the country. The Institute was conferred upon the status of Deemed University on June 26, 2002 and declared an Institution of National Importance by MHRD, Govt. of India on June 6, 2007.

ABOUT KURUKSHETRA

Kurukshetra-the land of the Mahabharata where the quest for wisdom and absolute started with the rendering of sermon by Lord Krishna and also known as Dharmakshetra. The famous tourist spots are Brahmasarovar, Jyotisar, Dharohar, Shek Chehlis Tomb, Panorma, Sannihit Sarovar, Kalpana Chawala Planitarium, etc. In addition to its spiritual significance, the town has steadily developed into a centre of academic excellence. Kurukshetra is a railway junction on the Delhi-Ambala section of the Northern Railway. It is about 160 kms from Delhi. The Institute is situated on the Pehowa Road, about 6 kms from the Railway station Kurukshetra. The nearest road junction is Pipli which is on the National Highway No.1 (Sher Shah Suri Marg). The Institute is about 10 kms from Pipli.

ABOUT THE PHYSICS DEPARTMENT

Fundamental principles of Physics are to form the base for Engineering and Technology; therefore, the Department aims at providing the necessary knowledge of Physics to the young engineers. The Department offers curricula consisting of basic principles of Physics besides emerging areas of Technology to the 1st and 2nd semester students of all B. Tech branches while a number of courses are offered as Non Departmental Electives in the 7th & 8th semesters as well. The Department also runs two M.Tech. programmes specialized in Instrumentation and Nanotechnology and offers Ph.D. in different areas to keep synergy with the evolving innovations and developments in various fields of experimental and theoretical Physics, materials science and nanotechnology.

For this purpose, the Department has various sophisticated instruments/facilities in Optical Instrumentation, FTIR spectroscopy, SPM, SEM, Dielectric spectroscopy, XRD, XRF as well as instruments for the measurements of electrical properties etc. The faculties hold various R & D Projects and also deliver various expert lectures on different platforms.
