Project Brief:

A study titling An Assessment of the status of Water User Association (WUA) of Maharashtra has been mounted by TISS, Mumbai and TISS, Tuljapur campus. The study will take place in three phases which will include designing a comprehensive performance assessment framework for evaluating the status of WUAs in the State of Maharashtra, analysing the status of WUAs in Maharashtra through a region wise survey across a sample of WUAs and selected member farmers within the command area of the selected WUAs and an in-depth case study of selected WUAs to study Why they (WUAs) are what they are. It is expected that the study will propose a new model of WUA and suggesting way forward for Irrigation Management Transfer.

Job Description:

The incumbent will report to principle investigator (PI) and co-principle investigators (Co-PI).

Based on literature review and stakeholder interaction develop a performance assessment framework with the assistance of the research associates.

Overall designing, piloting and implementation of various research instruments across the entire period of study, data analysis and report writing.

Coordinate and convene relevant stakeholders for data collection and subsequently organize, conduct and facilitate data collection.

Mentor the research associates and lead the members of the research team (research associates, research assistants, field investigators etc.) throughout the various stages of data collection and analysis along with quality check.

Liaisoning on behalf of the project with relevant government and nongovernment organisation.

Keep the track of overall project deliverables and prepare periodic progress reports with the input from the PI and Co-PIs and share the same with relevant government departments/funding agency from time to time.

Organising workshops and training programs involving various stakeholders.

Coordinate with administration in compliance and fulfil regular admin requirements.

Any other work towards the operationalization of the project, as directed by PI and Co-PIs.

Qualification:

M Phil/ Masters in Economics/ Political Science/ Statistics/ Sociology/ Social Work/ Development Studies/ Rural Management/ Natural Resource Management from reputed institute.

Desired Qualification: PhD. In any of the subjects above and a track record of publications in academic journal/s.

Experience:

Minimum 3-5 years of working experience in implementing research projects pertaining to agriculture, natural resources management and community participation. Previous experience in managing large research projects in the field of water and agriculture will be given priority.

Essential skills and other requirements:

Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English, Marathi and Hindi. Proficiency in using MS Office packages and relevant packages for analyzing qualitative and Quantitative data (like SPSS, Atlas TI etc.). Willingness to travel extensively within districts of Maharashtra.

Remuneration: Between Rs. 55,000-70,000 per month, subject to the qualification and relevant experience of the incumbent.
