Project Brief:

A study titling An Assessment of the status of Water User Association (WUA) of Maharashtra has been mounted by TISS, Mumbai and TISS, Tuljapur campus. The study will take place in three phases which will include designing a comprehensive performance assessment framework for evaluating the status of WUAs in the State of Maharashtra, analysing the status of WUAs in Maharashtra through a region wise survey across a sample of WUAs and selected member farmers within the command area of the selected WUAs and an in-depth case study of selected WUAs to study Why they (WUAs) are what they are. It is expected that the study will propose a new model of WUA and suggesting way forward for Irrigation Management Transfer.

Duration: 18 months or co-terminus with the project, whichever is earlier (Initial 12 Months contract will be given, after performance appraisal extension for Six months will be given)

Job Description:

The incumbent will report to co-principle investigators (Co-PI).

With the guidance from the Senior Research Officer (Project Coordinator) undertake literature review, pilot and implement various research instruments across the entire period of the study and engage with various stakeholders for data collection and subsequently organize, conduct and facilitate data collection, analysis and report writing.

Will help the Senior Research Officer (Project Coordinator) in coordinating with and convening various government and nongovernment organisations, and help the Senior Research Officer in coordinating with the accounts and finance departments for all project related activities and in preparing periodic progress reports to be shared with the funding agency.

Keep the track of overall project deliverables and prepare periodic progress reports with input from the PI and Co-PIs and share the same with relevant government departments/ funding agency from time to time.

Any other work towards the operationalization of the project, as directed by the Senior Research Officer (Project Coordinator).

Qualification:

Masters in Water Policy and Governance/ Economics/ Political Science/ Statistics/ Sociology/ Human Geography/ Social Work/ Rural Development and Management/ Natural Resource Management/ Development Studies from reputed institute.

Experience:

Minimum 2-3 years of working experience on fields pertaining to agriculture, water and sanitation, natural resources management and community participation. Previous experience in working on water related projects or programs requiring coordination with government departments will be given priority.

Essential skills and other requirements:

Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English, Marathi and Hindi. Willingness to travel extensively within districts of Maharashtra.

Remuneration: Between Rs. 30,000-40,000 per month, subject to the qualification and relevant experience of the incumbent.
