Project Assistant

on Contract for SERB DST Project

The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier autonomous Institute under the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India, in the field of wildlife research, training, and management. The WII wishes to engage 02 Project Assistant (Field) for the project Spatio-temporal and Thermal Ecology of Indian Python (Python molurus molurus Linn.1758) in Moyar River Valley, Tamil Nadu through application screening followed by an Interview (in person or Skype) on 02nd August 2017 at WII. The engagement will initially be for a period of one year which may be extended for a further period(s) depending upon project needs and satisfactory performance of the project staff.

Essential Qualification

(EQ)

Graduation in Science with minimum one year of Wildlife related research experience.

Desirable Qualification

(DQ)

a) Masters degree in Wildlife Biology/Zoology/ Forestry/Botany/Environmental Science/ Life Sciences/Geo-Informatics or any comparable discipline from a recognized University is an advantage but not essential.
b) Experience/Interest in radio-telemetry, Plant Taxonomy vegetation quantification, animal census techniques, and handling herpetofauna.
c) Fluent in Tamil, English with Driving License (4 wheeler) is an advantage.
d) Keen desire to carryout fieldwork with minimum logistics support in remote areas. Interest in scientific work, high motivation, very good organizational skills and interest to work in interdisciplinary team.
e) Analytical, scientific communication and working experience in GIS is an advantage.

Age

Shall not be more than 32 years. The upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years for the candidate(s) belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Women and Physically Challenged category.

Description of Work

The project aims to study the movement ecology and thermal biology of Indian Python. In addition, baseline data (primary/secondary) collection for the project, which includes field / questionnaire surveys for people perception towards snakes, anthropogenic impacts on wildlife and their habitats in the study area. Assist the project team in day-to-day activities and functioning of the project in the field. Only Candidates who are willing to work in arduous field conditions in remote location of the Moyar River Valley, Tamil Nadu with limited logistic support need to apply.

General Terms & Conditions

1. The application form is available with the advertisement, also can be downloaded from Institutes website www.wii.gov.in for submission.

2. Candidates currently residing outside Dehra Dun and willing to appear in interview online through video conference/Skype must submit their application form along with soft (scanned) copy of their educational qualification and research experience certificates in advance through email to Dr. Ramesh Chinnasamy (Scientist C; rameshc@wii.gov.in ) on or before 28th July 2017. Also, write legibly your Skype ID in the application form. Only shortlisted candidates will be intimated and allowed to participate through video conference/Skype interview on 02nd August, 2017.

.3. The candidate opted for Interview in Person, should report at WII on 02nd August, 2017 at 9.30 hrs with a copy of their filled-in application with self attested true copies of testimonials of educational qualifications, research experience certificate along with certificate of extracurricular activities, date of birth, mark sheets of all examinations etc. All original documents/certificates must be produced at the time of registration for necessary verification.

4. At the time of the verification of original documents (even after selection), if it is found that an attempt has been made by the applicant to willfully conceal, misrepresent or canvass the facts, such applicant will not be considered for selection and due action will be taken.

5. The Institute will not provide accommodation for candidates appearing for

the interview.

6. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the Interview and the candidate should bear the cost of video conference / Skype call.

The Director WII, reserves the right to reject any candidature in view of incomplete information provided by the candidate or for any other reason thereof.
