Saksham which means "Capable" or Self- reliant in Sanskrit is a TISS project that implements counselling services for Drug Resistant (DR) TB patients in collaboration with the Mumbai District Tuberculosis (TB) Control Society (MDTCS). The programme supported by the Global Fund for AIDS, TB and Malaria was initiated in August 2014.

Saksham and Tata Power Community Development Trust have come together to implement Project 'Saksham Jan Urja' - a project for TB prevention and TB treatment adherence through community engagement in M Ward. The project aims to enhance TB literacy, awareness and create an enabling environment leading to early TB diagnosis and higher TB treatment adherence in M Ward.

Job Description for the position of Community Social Worker Saksham- Jan Urja

Identify and engage with community stakeholders for creating TB awareness within M Ward.

Undertake TB awareness activities and meetings at community and household level in M ward.

Coordinate with RNTCP TB staff placed in M ward for early TB diagnosis and treatment of TB suspects.

Conduct home visits to follow up with TB patients and their family care givers for completing treatment.

Coordinate with Saksham TB Counsellors for Drug Resistant TB counselling.

Link TB patients to necessary social protection schemes.

Undertake case documentation and submit monthly reports to the Programme Officer, Saksham.

Any other tasks as and when assigned by the supervisors.

Qualifications:

Post graduate in Social Work (Health & Mental Health or Public Health or Community Organisation)/ M.A. (Counselling or Clinical Psychology)/Master in Public Health/ Master in Health Administration.

Essential skills and other requirements:

Minimum 1-3 years of working experience in the related field of TB-HIV community awareness services or and Public health.

Good communication skills - written as well as spoken - in Marathi, Hindi and English.

Knowledge of MS Office-Word, Excel and PPT.

Willingness to travel extensively within M Ward.

High level of commitment and integrity and ability to work independently.

Willingness to work with TB patient and their caregivers.

Venue: Training Hall, Saksham (Global fund project), under the Old Conference hall, TISS main (Old) campus, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Sion- Trombay Road, Opp Deonar Bus Depot, Deonar, Mumbai - 400088.

Kindly note:

  • You are requested to make your own arrangements for the travel to TISS campus and back. TISS will not provide any travel reimbursement both local and outstation.

  • If you are required to relocate to Mumbai, TISS will not provide you any accommodation for the same.
