Faculty Positions for Teacher Education

The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) which was established in 1936 is a Deemed University fully funded by the University Grant Commission (UGC), Government of India. The TISS offers 46 Master Degree Programmes in a range of Socially relevant inter-disciplinary of Social Work, Social Sciences, Health, Management, Labour Studies and Habitat Studies from its Mumbai, Tuljapur, Guwahati and Hyderabad Campuses. It has a strong M.Phil/Ph.D programme a high degree of freedom and autonomy shape the positive work ethos and creativity in the Institute. The TISS offers a very challenging but fulfilling academic environment and opportunities to practitioners committed to creating a just society through education, generation of knowledge and field action and invites interested persons located within and outside India to apply for the following positions at the Centre for Education Innovation and Action Research (CEIAR).

The Centre for Education Innovation and Action Research (CEIAR) is an Independent Centre at TISS Mumbai which was established in 2015 to engage with and promote innovation in school curriculum, teacher education and higher education curriculum and pedagogy. The Centre incubates and promotes innovations that address the needs of India education to raise quality and standards and relevant to the developing world, and the innovative use of new technologies and media. The Connected Learning Initiative (CLIx), which the flagship programme of the Centre was awarded the UNESCO-King Hamad Prize for the Use of ICTs in Education (2017 edition).

The Centre is actively engaged in research, development, teaching, field action/action research and advocacy, and offers opportunities for national and international collaboration, innovation and excellence in teaching and research. The Centre is initiating programmes which are aimed at strengthening teacher education in India including pre-service teacher education, in-service teacher education, institutional development, faculty development and policy. Faculty are expected to contribute to the research, development, teaching and extension activities of CEIAR. They are expected to pursue their own independent research agendas, work closely with collaborators and state governments, design and offer courses of teacher professional development, and design and conduct research, guide students. Senior faculty are also expected to lead new academic initiatives and to develop new research projects for the Centre. They are expected to be involved in other related academic activities and associated administrative responsibilities of the Centre and the Institute.

Faculty appointments will be on contract initially for a period of one years which may be extended based on work performance of the candidate and requirement of the Institute. Positions will be at the Centre in Mumbai Campus of TISS.

I. PROFESSOR (ONE) REMUNERATION : As per UGC norms ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

An eminent scholar with a Ph. D. in Education and active engagement in research with strong publications record. A Masters Degree with at least 55% marks in the discipline relevant to the area of specialisation. M.Ed with minimum 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed).

A minimum of ten years of teaching experience in Teacher Education in university/college, and/or experience in research at the University/National level institutions/industries, including experience of guiding candidates for research at doctoral level.

Contribution to educational innovation, design of new curricula and courses, and technology mediated teaching learning process.

II. ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (Two)

REMUNERATION : As per UGC norms

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Good academic record with at least 55% of the marks or an equivalent grade (of B in the 7-point scale with letter grades O, A, B, C, D, E and F) at the Masters Degree level in areas of specialization relevant to Teachers Education/Education/English and related disciplines. A relaxation of 5% will be provided from 55% to 50% of the marks at the Masters level for the SC/ST category candidates, and to the Ph. D. Degree holders who have passed their Masters Degree prior to 19th September 1991.

Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, the candidate must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC, CSIR or similar test accredited by the UGC like SLET/SET.

Candidates, who are, or have been awarded a Ph. D. Degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of Ph. D. Degree) Regulations, 2009, shall be exempted from the requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET/SLET/SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or equivalent positions in Universities/ Colleges/Institutions.

Preference will be given to those with Ph. D., having few years of Post-Doctoral research/teaching experience and publications, and having teaching experience in Teacher Education in university/college, in creating English language and Literature, assessment and pedagogy in university/college, and/or experience in research at the University/National level institutions/industries, including experience of guiding candidates for research at doctoral level.

Application fee: The application fee of Rs. 1000/-be paid on-line. For SC/ST/PWD candidates the fee is not applicable. The application will be valid only on receipt of the application fee for those who are required to pay. Fees once paid shall not be refunded under any circumstances.

requisite experience would not entitle a person to be called for interview.

The institute reserves the right to relax qualification of the candidate based on the work experience.
