Advertisement for Junior Research Fellowships

National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF), Noida, is a centre of excellence in Weather and Climate Modelling under the Ministry of Earth Sciences. Scientists at NCMRWF are involved in various research and development activities in the field of weather and climate. The activities also include imparting training to the students and motivating them to take up research careers in atmospheric and oceanic sciences. The centre has excellent infrastructural facilities and a strong link with various universities and national and international organizations. Major research thrust of the centre are on Numerical Weather Prediction, Data Assimilation, Ocean modelling, Ensemble prediction techniques, Physical processes in atmosphere and ocean, Satellite and radar meteorology etc.

Applications are invited from young Indian nationals for 20 (Twenty) Junior Research Fellows (JRFs) for the centres two programmes, namely Numerical Modelling of Weather and Climate and Monsoon Mission-Phase-II as per details given below.

  1. Post: Junior Research Fellow

  2. Number of Vacancies: 20 (Numerical Modelling of atmosphere: 4, Data assimilation: 4, Ensemble Prediction: 2, Coupled Modelling: 5, Ocean Initialisation: 5)

  3. Tenure: Initial offer is for 2018-March2020, based on satisfactory progress at the end of each financial year and extendable further subject to satisfactory progress.

  4. Eligibility Criteria:

a. Essential Qualifications:

Post Graduate degree in Physical Sciences (Physics/Applied Physics/ Atmospheric Sciences/

Meteorology/ Oceanography/ Geophysics with Meteorology as one of the subjects/ Climate

Science or equivalent subjects) or Mathematical Sciences (Mathematics/Applied

Mathematics/Statistics or equivalent subjects)

OR

Post Graduate / Graduate degree in Engineering (Civil/Mechanical/Computer Science)

b.
Candidates should have qualified NET or either of the examinations listed below: CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test including NET-Lecturership Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) conducted by MHRD Joint Admission Test (JAM) conducted by MHRD Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST)
c.
Candidates should have studied Physics and Mathematics at Graduation level.
d.
For General and OBC Category: Minimum 60% aggregate mark in the qualifying examination is essential.
e.
For SC/ST/Physically Challenged (PC) Category: Minimum 55% aggregate marks in qualifying examination is essential.
f.
Age Limit: 28 years as on 01.07.2018
  1. Desirable Skill: Good knowledge in computer programming(Fortran/C/Python etc.) and Linux/UNIX (shell scripts). Familiarisation with numerical weather prediction and related fields.

  2. Emoluments: Rs.25,000/-p.m. plus admissible + HRA (as per GOI rules) Selected candidates may avail hostel accommodation at NCMRWF residential campus.

  3. Selected candidates will be encouraged to register for Ph. D and pursue the same in Atmospheric/ Oceanic Sciences under the guidance of the scientists of NCMRWF in Indian universities.

  4. General conditions:

(i)
The number of posts to be filled may vary. The Ministry reserves the right to cancel the recruitment without assigning any reason.
(ii)
The prescribed essential qualifications are minimum and the mere possession of the same does not entitle candidates to be called for interview. If the number of applications received in response to the Advertisement is large, NCMRWF may restrict the number of candidates to be called for interview to a reasonable limit on the basis of marks secured in the qualifying examinations, desirable skills, experiences etc.

(iii) Upper age limit is relaxable for SC/ST/OBC/PC and ex-serviceman as per GOI rule. Reservation for SC/ST/OBC/PC will be as per Government of India guidelines.

(iv)
Applications should be neatly typed on thick plain paper (A-4 size 210 x 297 mm) in the prescribed format available at http://www.ncmrwf.gov.in/vacancy.php .
(v)
Copies of certificates in support of educational qualifications, date of birth, Disability, Community (in case of SC/ST/OBC candidates only) and experience should be attached with the application. Applicants are required to produce original certificates/documents for verification at the time of interview.
(vi)

(vii) Applications received after 01.07.2018 or received incomplete in any respect are liable to be summarily rejected. No representation against such rejection will be entertained.

(viii) The names of the shortlisted candidates and date of interview will be published at http://www.ncmrwf.gov.in/vacancy.php

(ix)
No correspondence will be entertained from candidates who are not called for interview/selected for appointment.
(x)
CANVASSING IN ANY FORM WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION OF CANDIDATURE.
(xi)
Shortlisted candidates called for interview will be entitled for reimbursement of the to and fro travelling allowance by the shortest route from the place where interview call letter has been sent. The reimbursement would be restricted to train fare of sleeper class or the actual whichever is less.

(xii) Tentative date of interview for JRF is in August/September 2018.
