Advt No.24/2017 : Walk-in Interview for the position of News Co-ordinator

The Bangalore Life Science Cluster, an innovative institutional model for cutting-edge scientific research and technology development in India, invites Walk-in Interview for the position of News Coordinator.

The Bangalore Life Science Cluster comprises of NCBS (www.ncbs.res.in), a premier centre for research and teaching in frontier areas of biology, inStem (http://instem.res.in/), an institute with a research focus on the broad area of stem cell and regenerative and CCAMP (http://www.ccamp.res.in/), created for enabling research and entrepreneurship at the Cluster and beyond. It is envisioned that synergistic associations at the Cluster will have a far greater impact on life sciences research than the sum of individual contributions from each member institution.

The News Coordinator will work to develop, coordinate and produce content for a range of timely news stories, press releases, online media including social media and other scientific content for communications materials for the purpose of enhancing the brand value of members of the Bangalore Life Science Cluster campus. The activities of the News Coordinator will ensure a steady stream of news items that are highly responsive to campus research and engagements, to be shared on Cluster channels, a wide range of internet-based media and with the press. The News Coordinator will help to raise the profile of research and activities at the Bangalore Life Science Cluster both within the Indian and international scientific communities.

Key duties of the News Coordinator will include:

  • Working with the faculty and researchers at the Cluster to mine for stories relating to scientific highlights from the campus
  • Working with colleagues at the Research Development Office to mine for stories relating to fundraising highlights from the campus
  • Writing, researching and coordinating news stories, press releases and similar materials on emerging research and innovations from the campus
  • Outsourcing news writing to external freelance writers as needed
  • Scientific editing of content written by other colleagues on campus and externally- to conform to the Cluster house style
  • Oversight of content being curated for digital media such as videos and podcasts, highlighting campus research
  • Sharing of campus stories, announcements and events on official media channels and a wide range of online channels
  • Coordinating media relations for the campus
  • Curating period Newsletters for the campus
  • Working across with other colleagues at the Cluster
  • Contributing to a highly professional science communication service for the Bangalore Life Science Cluster campus

Qualification:

  • Required: Masters degree
  • Preferred: Degree in a science or communication-related discipline, Advanced degree (e.g., PharmD, Ph.D. in Sciences or Education)

Applicants to the role should have:

  • A strong background in life sciences, at least to the Masters level
  • A minimum of 1 year prior experience in an outreach or communication role
  • Experience with using social media communication platforms
  • Experience with using tools for graphic design, such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and others
  • A proven high level of organization and attention to detail
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Adaptability and readiness to execute under short deadlines
  • Creative thinking, comfortable pushing the boundaries of standard industry practices
