NOTIFICATION FOR PROJECT FELLOW POSITION

Position title: Project fellow

Principal Investigator: Dr. J G Ray

Duration of the project: 8 months; the project fellow will be able to register for Ph D and continue after the tenure of the fellowship for Ph D under the University Scholarship scheme if the candidate is NET qualified.

Title of the project: Collection, identification and screening of green algae from bloomed water bodies of Kerala for quality of lipid

Fellowship: Rs-22,000/-per month (Consolidated)

Essential qualification: First class M Sc. in Botany/ Biotechnology

Desirable qualification:

i) Experience in algae sample collection, identification, cultivation and algal ecology

ii) Experience with laboratory skills including water quality analysis, growth determination, microscopy, algal compound extractions, chemical characterizations, operation of laboratory equipments and field equipments

iii) Individual who is self-motivated and a strong team player with an interest in developing sustainable production of algal biomass and biofuels

Preference will be given to NET/JRF qualified candidates with desirable qualifications

Task will include: i) Extensive field survey of bloomed water bodies and water sample collection, expertise in swimming is highly essential ii) Laboratory culturing of algae iii) Field & testing of water quality parameters using water analysis kit iv) Microscopic identification of algae v) Computer data entry and report writing vi) Financial accounting of expenditures, organizing of laboratory and field activities, ordering and purchasing as per university norms, storing and cleaning
