CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, CENTER OF INNOVATIVE AND APPLIED BIOPROCESSING (CIAB), MOHALI

Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB), an autonomous institute under the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, has a mission of advancing knowledge, leads and emerging technologies/processes relevant to agri-food sector towards applications and products. It aims to link them with societal benefits through catalyzing/promoting entrepreneurial action around bioprocesses, bio-products, value-addition to bioproducts etc. with special reference to the agri-food sector. Currently, the four major mandated R&D areas in hand at the institute are (A) Value Addition to Primary Processing Residues/ Wastes for Edible Products; (B) Valorisation of Crop Waste for Specialty Products and Chemicals; (C) Nutritionals, nutraceuticals and upgradation of value or use of bio-products, (D) Biosynthetic technology/synthetic biology for low volume-high volume products and industrial enzymes. 2.Applications are invited from eminent scientists (Indian Citizens) having proven scientific record inareas such as Food Technology/Biochemical or Bioprocess Engineering or related field andpossessing excellent leadership ability, for the post of Chief Executive Officer, CIAB, Mohali ondeputation (including short term contract)/absorption. The position of Chief Executive Officeroffers a unique opportunity for the individual in providing strong and visionary leadership to theinstitution. He/she shall be the Chief Executive of the Institute and shall be responsible for leadingand nurturing the core multi-disciplinary research faculty, developing policies, fosteringcollaboration with scientific, medical and engineering partner institutions, developing mechanism forcollaborations with industry, recruitment of appropriate faculty and management of the extramuralactivities including supporting research resource units in other Institutes and other duties as may berequired for proper administration of the affairs of the Institute. The Institute encourages creation ofknowledge and benefit sharing related to IPR.

3.Scale of Pay and other benefits: The selected incumbent will be placed in the Level-17 (as per 7thCPC) [Apex Scale80,000/- (fixed) as per 6th CPC]. The pay in the revised pay structure is 2,25,000/- (excluding DA, HRA and TA). A semi furnished on-campus accommodation would be provided. Other benefits / allowances shall be as per rules applicable for appointment on deputation (ISTC)/absorption basis.

4.Eligibility criteria:

4.1 Scientists from Central/State Governments, Research Institutes, Autonomous Bodies, Government funded Research organizations/Institutes etc.

(i) Holding analogous post on regular basis in the parent Department; or

(ii) With 5 years service in post with Grade Pay of 10,000/- or equivalent in the parent cadre/Department and possess the qualification & experience as below:-

4.2 Essential Qualifications / Experience:

(i) Ph.D in Food Technology/Biochemical or Bioprocess Engineering or related field;

(ii) Minimum 15 years research experience in the field of Biotechnology, specifically for application in agriculture, food processing, nutrition and health;

(iii) Excellent track record, hand in research publications, patents and awards;

4.3 Desirable:

(i) Experience in successfully running large programme, centre, and institution;

(ii) Experience of guiding research activities in the area of specialization;

5. Age limit and tenure of appointment: The period of Deputation includes period of deputation in other ex-cadre posts, held immediately preceding this appointment in the same or some other organization/Department should ordinarily not exceed 5 years. The maximum age limit for appointment on deputation (ISTC) should not exceed 56 years as on the closing date of receipt of applications.
