IIT (ISM) Dhanbad invites applications/nominations from Indian Nationals for the position of CIL Chair Professor (Underground Coal Mining) created through an endowment by Coal India Ltd.

1. Qualification and Experience:
A. Essential Qualification:

Ph.D. with first class or equivalent at the preceding degree in the appropriate branch of engineering with a very good academic record throughout.

Or

An outstanding Engineer/Technologist, working in industry/ Govt. Establishment with established reputation and who has made significant contribution to knowledge but may be without a Ph.D. degree.

B. Other essential requirements:
a. Fifteen papers in SCI/SSCI journal in Career
b. Three externally funded projects in career
c. Contribution to Students Affairs or Laboratory Development
d. Two Ph.D Guided as sole or principal supervisor
e. Supervising more than three students for Ph.D/Preparing e-learning material/strong liaison with industry/offering significant support to institute management/ High value projects.
f. Academic outreach activities equivalent to two self-financed short term courses/equivalent projects
C. Additional Desirable Requirements:
a. One or more patents
b. Starting new PG Courses
D. Experience

Minimum 10 years experience of which at least 5 years should be at the level of Associate Professor.

Note: The above stated Other Essential Requirements, Additional Desirable Requirements and Experience are relaxable for candidates possessing significant industry/R&D experience/ Experience in Govt. Establishment.

2. Areas of specialization: Underground Mining
(i) Various operations relating to planning and development, exploitation and exploration of coal.

3. Who can apply:

(a) Persons from Industry/Academia/ Research Institutes/Government

Organisations who are in service or have superannuated.

(b) Persons who are serving as faculty in IIT (ISM), Dhanbad or other Academic Institutions.

4. Nature of Duties:

i) Impart education, training and carry out other activities related to Research work;

iii) Assist CIL R&D Department through active involvement in lead research;

iii) R&D work in various types of Underground Coal Mining activities by CIL.

iv) All types of consultancy services related to Underground Coal Mining activities by CIL.

v) The applicant is expected to teach basic Underground Coal Mining courses in addition to guiding B. Tech/PG and Ph.D. level projects.

5. Nature of Appointment: Tenure appointment initially for two years which may be extended further in stages up to 70 years of age.

6. Age: At the time of appointment the Chair Professor should have a minimum of two years to serve before reaching the maximum age of 70 years.

7. Remuneration:

(a) The remuneration of CIL Chair Professor including all allowances, perks and grants & honorariums shall be approximately Rs. 14.40 lakhs per annum. In case of increase of endowment from the company, the annual remuneration will increase accordingly.

(b) For the serving faculty of IIT (ISM), Dhanbad or other academic institution on appointment as Chair Professor, the pay and perks should be from the interest accrued at 6.5% on endowment grant, except that if required their pay would be protected as per GOI rules by supplementation from institute fund.

8. Professional Development Allowance (PDA):

A sum of up to 1.00 lakh per annum will admissible to the CIL Chair Professor (Underground Coal Mining) as PDA as per rules existing for other faculty members of the Institute.

9. Other Benefits

(a) Accommodation will be provided within IIT (ISM) Campus, depending upon availability and as per entitlement.

(b) The CIL Chair Professor will be entitled to avail medical facilities through IIT (ISM) Health Centre for self and spouse.

10. Interested candidates may apply in the prescribed application form which can be downloaded from website iitism.ac.in and submitted with a fee of Rs. 100/- in the form of Account Payee Demand Draft drawn only any nationalized bank in favour of Registrar, Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad payable at Dhanbad. The requisite fee can also be paid through online payment link available on the website of the Institute and the receipt generated should be enclosed with the application form. SC/ST/PH candidates are exempted from paying application fee.

11. Candidates called for personal discussion with the Selection Committee will be reimbursed to & fro journey expenses limited to AC-2/Air Economy Fare (Air India only) by the shortest route as per rule. No reimbursement of fare from outside India will be admissible. However reimbursement of fare from the place of disembarkation in India to Dhanbad will be admissible in such cases.

12. Canvassing in any form will disqualify the candidate. Legal disputes with IIT (ISM) are restricted to the jurisdiction of Dhanbad only.

13. Incomplete applications shall be summarily rejected.
