NATIONAL LAW SCHOOL OF INDIA UNIVERISTY (NLSIU), Bangalore, invites applications for various positions to the University Grants Commission (UGC) sponsored Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion& Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP).

NLSIU is seeking applications for the following positions from exceptionally competent candidates with excellent writing, research, analytical and computer skills and a commitment to the cause of socially marginalized communities. Candidates who have successfully combined research (through publications at international standards) and teaching policy-related courses will be given preference. All the candidates must meet the scores of Academic Performance Indicators (for the appropriate position) as recommended by University Grants Commission. They must be able to work independently as well as part of a research team and have good organizational and inter personal skills. The appointments are on UGC pay scale as per the rules and regulations of the university.

1. ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR cum DEPUTY DIRECTOR in the pay scale of Rs.37,400-67,000.

Essential Qualification/Experience: (i) Excellent academic record with a Doctoral Degree or equivalent published work and a Master's Degree with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) in Development Economics, Political Science, or Public Policy. (ii) A minimum of eight years teaching experience and /or research in an academic / research position equivalent to that of Assistant Professor in a university, College or Accredited research institution excluding the period of Ph.D., research with evidence of published work. (iii) A minimum of 5 publications as books and / or research /policy papers directly related to the issues of development and the marginalized communities in India. (iv) A minimum score as stipulated in the Academic Performance Indicator (API) based Performance Based Appraisal System (PBAS), set out in this regulation in Appendix -III (the document available at the following website:http://www.ugc.ac.in/oldpdf/regulations/englishgazette.pdf are essential. (v) Demonstrated ability to write research proposals, raise funds, execute and co-ordinate research projects, and strengths in quantitative & qualitative research methodology. (vi) Contribution to educational innovation, design of new courses and curricula, and experience of having worked in a reputed university/ institute / socio-legal research organization / Advocacy centre / organization and active engagement with policy making bodies / human rights / non-government organizations / social movements / national / international funding agencies related to the issues of socially under privileged communities are desirable. The appointment shall be for a period of one year with a possibility of regularization upon excellence in performance.

2. ASSISTANT PROFESSOR cum ASSISTANT DIRECTOR in the pay scale of Rs.15,600-39,100.

Essential Qualification/Experience: (i) Excellent academic record with a Doctoral Degree or equivalent published work in the relevant subject. (ii) Master's Degree from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) in Development Economics, Political Science, or Public Policy. (iii) A minimum score as stipulated in the Academic Performance Indicator (API) based Performance Based Appraisal System (PBAS), set out in this regulation in Appendix -III (the document available at the following website:http://www.ugc.ac.in/oldpdf/regulations/englishgazette.pdf are essential. (iv) Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, candidates should have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) for assistant professorship conducted by the UGC or similar test accredited by the UGC. However, the candidates having the Ph.D., Degree in the concerned subject are exempted from NET. The appointment shall be for a period of one year with a possibility of regularization upon excellence in performance.

3 RESEARCH ASSOCIATE with a consolidated pay of Rs. 14,000+ HRA per month

Essential Qualification/Experience: Doctoral Degree or Post Graduate Degree in social sciences, three year experience of research in any of the Social Sciences including work experience in print / electronic media on issues related to the socially disadvantaged sections, ability to network with individuals and organizations, organize seminars, workshops, conferences and thorough knowledge of Microsoft office applications, Internet administration, strong reading, writing and typing skills in English / one's mother tongue and working knowledge of Hindi or another South Indian language are essential. Specialization in quantitative & qualitative research methodology & experience of having worked in a reputed university/ institute/ socio-legal research centres/ Advocacy centre / organization, litigation law firm, engagement with policy making bodies and human rights non-government organizations/social movements / newspaper / journal are desirable. The appointment is for a period of one year.

4 RESEARCH ASSISTANT in the pay scale of Rs.9,300 25,000.

Essential Qualification/Experience : Post Graduate Degree in social sciences, three year experience of research in any of the Social Sciences including work experience in print / electronic media on issues related to the socially disadvantaged sections, ability to network with individuals and organizations, organize seminars, workshops, conferences and thorough knowledge of Microsoft office applications, Internet administration, strong reading, writing and typing skills in English / one's mother tongue and working knowledge of Hindi or another South Indian language are essential. Specialization in quantitative & qualitative research methodology and experience of having worked in a reputed university / institute/ socio-legal research centres/ Advocacy centre / organization, litigation law firm, engagement with policy making bodies and human rights non-government organizations/social movements / newspaper / journal are desirable. The appointment is for a period of one year.

5 ATTENDANT in the pay scale of Rs.5, 200 -12,000.

Essential Qualification/Experience: Pre-University Degree or SSLC, reading, writing and typing skills in English / Kannada are essential. Work experience in research institutes / law firms / organizations is desirable. Candidates with keen interest in higher education or take this opportunity to develop skills relevant for other job opportunities will be given preference. The appointment is for a period of one year.

NLSIU reserves the right to:

a) Relax any of the requirements with reference to age and experience in exceptional cases and/or in the case of persons; already holding comparable positions, on a regular basis, in a University / research institution of repute

b) Invite persons for interview, who may not have applied for as per the above procedure

c) Give preference to candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, minorities and women, without relaxing the essential qualifications and experience

d) Give higher scale to deserving candidates or re designate the nomenclature of post without modifications in the pay scale.

e) Not to fill up any of the vacancies advertised

f) Merely possessing the prescribed qualifications and the requisite experience would not entitle a person to be called for an interview

g) Canvassing will lead to the candidate being debarred from consideration for the post

h) Candidates will have to make their own arrangements for travel and lodging

i) Candidates who have definite research projects related to the mandate of the CSSEIP and are willing to take deputation for a minimum of two years from reputed research institutes/ universities/ government departments/ nationalinternational organizations will also be considered.

j) The crucial date of determining the age limit and length of experience shall be 10-12-2017 i.e., the closing date for receipt of applications.

GENERAL CONDITION:

3. Three sets of each (not more than three) articles /papers / books published / papers presented at seminars / conferences, in the last five years. Applicants to the post of Associate Professor and Assistant Professor may please note that this is an essential requirement, and hence three copies of each of the above must be forwarded in advance with the application

4. Candidates for Associate Professor and Assistant Professor may be called to give a seminar in NLSIU in any topic that is relevant for the applicants research.

5. Candidates for Associate Professor and Assistant Professor are requested to make a self-assessment of their Academic Performance Indicators following the scoring system as stipulated by UGC (http://www.ugc.ac.in/oldpdf/regulations/englishgazette.pdf)and to send the same along with the application.

8. Statement of purpose and a synopsis of the area of research to engage in for a period of one year.
