Description: The National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) in Bangalore is a research facility dedicated to fundamental research at all levels of biology, from the study of single molecules to ecology and evolution. The Archives at NCBS is a repository that is dedicated to holding institutional records as well as records shedding light on the history of contemporary biology in India. The Archives aims to be a living, breathing place to make better sense of our intertwined histories and the moving frontiers of biology. The physical and digital archive will be open for research and public use by late 2018 or early 2019. The Archives is seeking student interns to work with the archiving team. To archive is to collect, sort and make sense of history. The task of setting up a new physical and digital archive is an opportunity to think about the links between journalism, storytelling using archival material, web annotations, scientific research, IT law and classification of information. This is also an opportunity to think of ways to spread awareness about the archival material, through design narratives and artwork. Position overview: The trainee will be trained in detailed cataloguing efforts in the Archives. Duration: ~mid November 2018 to mid Feb 2019 (maximum up to end Feb 2019).
